Learn
To Speak Spanish Online And It Might Save Your
Life!
Well, I didn't learn to speak Spanish
online, but knowing how to speak Spanish did help to save
my life, really. I will tell you all about it in a
moment.
First though, a little background
is required. You see, I found myself to be a single dad with 4
teenagers, all of whom needed a lot of love and attention. All
teenagers need love and affection, but without a mother
present, the need was only magnified.
So, I got the clever idea of
trying to find a suitable partner south of the border, for
myself and for my children. I figured that a Latina would be
much more inclined to adopt my family and be willing to help
than any local woman.
Years ago I had lived in Spain,
so my Spanish language skills were pretty good, I was always
adventurous, and, all in all, the idea made sense to me at the
time.
You must also figure in the
stress factor of working 50 hours a week, doing all of the
doctor/dentist appointments, school visits, sports (at one time
I had them on 4 different basketball teams!), and rides to
part-time jobs, friends, etc.
I began this project by trying to
learn to speak Spanish online, and soon I had made friends with
a woman in Mexico. You don't need to learn to speak Spanish
online to meet a Latina, but that is actually a good way.
So, off I went to lovely Mexico
to visit the woman I had met. She was very enthusiastic and
eager to have me come for a visit. Now, this visit was quite
interesting, to say the least, but that is another story. This
story is about how you should learn to speak Spanish online to
save your life!
My Mexican potential wife and
partner was really not at all what I was looking for, but I was
booked to stay in Central Mexico for 10 days.
Realistically, my only
option was to make the best of it and learn all I could about
speaking Spanish, Mexican culture, how the interior social life
really was, and so on. This was actually much better than
trying to learn to speak Spanish online, but it sure was more
complicated.
Eventually, this led me to a very
remote state park in the middle of somewhere I have know idea
where. My lady wanted to take me hiking to visit a hidden
waterfall, deep in the forest. Sounded fun, so we ate breakfast
at the local market and took off.
The breakfast was at an open air market,
complete with mangy dogs and lots of homemade food. I
wanted to be like the locals, so I ate what they ate-big
mistake. I was soon a basket case of diarrhea and
weakness.
After drinking some fruity
concoction that was supposed to cure me, we left for the
waterfall. I was a bit better, but still really weak. This made
me walk much slower than normal, and I soon found myself
wondering why there were mansions out in the middle of this
park.
Very quietly, she told me that
they were narco-trafficker mansions. I asked her if this
bothered her, but she rolled her eyes and told me it was us
stupid Americans who had the drug habit. To her and most locals, it was just another
type of crop to farm.
I was taking pictures of a
mansion, when suddenly I realized I was all alone and there was
a pick-up truck coming up the tiny trail toward me. Hmm.. . I
didn't think this little trail could even support a truck.
To my great dismay, the truck had
6 passengers, 3 in front and 3 in back. They were Mestizos, or
half Indian and half Spanish. These people are very dark and
have deep black eyes, and I was scared. Really scared.
Probably, they were really kind-hearted, and read stories to
their children at night, but this was
different.
They stopped, and all of them
walked over to me, with huge machetes in their hands! Oh my
god! I am dead, they are going to chop me up and throw me in
the forest. Nobody will ever know what happened!
I had one choice, as I saw it: to
talk to them. I took a slow, deep breath, played as casual as I
could and started chatting with them in Spanish.
Amazingly, they relaxed, became
friendly, and nodded me on my way. They pretended to cut the
brush on the side of the trail and I walked as fast as I could
without appearing to hurry, on my way!
Now, this is to tell you: you
need to learn to speak Spanish online! Learning online is the
fastest way to become conversant, aside from immersing yourself
in the country and culture. You don't have to get in a
situation like I did to appreciate your Spanish language
skills, but you will certainly be able to make your own
memories and friends.
